Biological Father vs. Legal Father

The Responsible Fatherhood Initiative

Family Attorneys

An article recently published states the Department of Children and Families recently announced that there is over $21.2 million available through something known as the Responsible Fatherhood Initiative in the state of Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB 7065 into law in 2022. This law created the Responsible Fatherhood Initiative. This bill discusses how important fathers are and how they play critical roles in their children’s lives. This bill aims to fund services and help fathers so that they are better able to step into the role of the father by helping them find employment, helping them best manage child support payments, and understanding how to nurture their children. Further, it will help with mentorships programs that are aimed at at-risk males in middle and high school so that they can best be prepared for future success.

The Governor signed this bill because there is a high rate of children becoming substance abusers, dropping out of school, or becoming involved with crimes when they are raised in a home without a father. With over $21 million available to help provide support for fathers, Gov. DeSantis hopes to address the root of the challenges that many families are facing and give fathers the resources they need to be a part of their children’s lives, whether it is through opportunities to have physical custody of their children, be better role models during visitations, or provide reliable child support.
